Sun Valley has been hosting guests since the nineteen thirties, and the wedding business runs on the same bones: a lodge, a village and Bald Mountain standing over both. Couples take a block of rooms for four nights and put the ceremony on a meadow or a mountain deck with Baldy filling the west. Those venues fly on a LAANC authorization, or on a manual FAA filing when the automated altitude is short of what the choreography needs. Sites up the side canyons often sit outside it.
Two local facts shape the design. The valley floor sits near six thousand feet, so each rotor moves less air, lift drops and endurance comes in under a sea level figure, which we answer with fleet count and a shorter program. The Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve begins just north, and the absence of ground light out there is why a formation here looks the way it does.
The summer is genuinely short. July through the middle of September is the honest window, snow can reach the high country before September ends, and the few good Saturdays go more than a year ahead. Fire restrictions are standard across that whole stretch and usually take open flame off the table for the dates couples want most.
Latitude keeps the evenings long. An early July date is not dark until nearly ten, so the flight runs after the cake and guests get told to stay. Mid September is dark around eight twenty, which sits inside a normal reception.
