Booking and Pricing

Cost and timing come up first in almost every conversation, so this part of our drone light show FAQ starts with the basics.

How much does a drone light show cost?

Our packages start at $6,500 for Capture (70 drones), $10,000 for Illuminate (150 drones) and $18,000 for Spectacle (200-300+ drones). Final pricing depends on drone count, show length, location, airspace complexity and travel. See the full breakdown on our packages page.

What is included in every package?

Every package includes custom animation design, music sync, FAA coordination, weather monitoring, professional pilots and a safety team, plus professional aerial photography and 4K video. Illuminate adds a dedicated show producer, and Spectacle adds a rehearsal flight and full-day aerial coverage.

How many drones do I need?

It mostly depends on guest count and how much detail you want. Capture’s 70 drones suit 50-150 guests, Illuminate’s 150 drones suit 150-400 guests, and Spectacle’s 200-300+ drones are built for 400+ guests and more detailed animations.

How far in advance should we book?

Book as early as you can, especially for peak wedding season, holidays and New Year’s Eve. FAA authorizations for some locations can take weeks, so several months of lead time is ideal. If your date is close, call us and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

Safety and FAA: Drone Light Show FAQ

Are drone light shows safe?

Yes, when they are planned and flown by a professional team. We have a perfect FAA safety record across 1,000+ shows. Every show uses a mapped launch zone, a marked safety perimeter, pre-flight checks on every drone and a trained safety crew on site.

Are your pilots licensed?

Yes. Our pilots are FAA Part 107 certified, and every show is flown by experienced pilots supported by a dedicated safety team.

Do drone shows need FAA approval?

Most do. Shows often require FAA waivers or authorizations for night operations, flights over or near people, operating many drones at once and flying in controlled airspace near airports. We handle the FAA paperwork for every show.

How long do FAA authorizations take?

It varies by location. Controlled airspace near airports can take weeks to approve, which is why we check your location early and give you a clear timeline. Booking well ahead removes most of the stress.

Are you insured?

Yes. Chromaglow carries $10M in insurance, and we can provide a certificate of insurance to your venue, planner or HOA on request.

Weather

Can drones fly in rain or wind?

We can fly in light rain and winds up to about 20 mph. Heavy rain, lightning, strong gusts or dense fog mean we hold the show until conditions are safe.

Who decides whether the show goes ahead?

Our team monitors the forecast for days ahead and agrees on a go/no-go time with you or your planner. The final safety call rests with our pilots, and we share updates early so you are never left guessing.

What happens if weather cancels the show?

We plan a backup window with you in advance whenever the schedule allows, such as later that evening or another night. We will walk you through the options for your date before you book.

Design and Music: Drone Light Show FAQ

Is every show custom?

Yes. Our designers build your show from scratch around your story, colors and music. Capture includes 2 custom animations, Illuminate includes 4, and Spectacle includes unlimited animations.

Can the drones show names, logos or a QR code?

Yes. Names, monograms, dates, logos, silhouettes and QR codes are some of our most requested formations; detailed logos and QR codes read best with larger drone counts. We share previews and refine them with you until you approve every scene.

Do we get to see the design before show night?

Yes. After your consultation, our designers turn your ideas into a storyboard and animation previews. You review them, request changes and approve the final show before it is loaded for flight.

Can we choose the music?

Yes. Pick one song or a short medley, and we sync every movement to it. Spectacle includes multi-song sync for longer, more layered shows. The music usually plays through your DJ, band or venue sound system on our cue.

How long is a drone light show?

Capture shows run 3-5 minutes, Illuminate shows run 5-8 minutes and Spectacle shows run 8-12 minutes. That is long enough to tell a story without losing the crowd.

Venues and Space

How much space do we need?

For a small show, plan on a clear launch area roughly the size of a tennis court or larger, plus a safety buffer between the drones and your guests. Bigger shows need more room. We confirm exact requirements during a site survey.

Can you fly at our venue or backyard?

Often, yes. Lawns, fields, beaches, estates, ranches and club grounds all work well. We also check venue rules and nearby obstacles, and if the property is tight we can often launch from an open area nearby.

Can you fly over water?

Yes, and lakes, bays and oceans make stunning backdrops because the lights reflect on the surface. We plan launch and landing from a safe shoreline or other suitable area.

Can we have a drone show in a National Park?

No. Drones cannot take off or land in National Parks or in designated Wilderness areas. If you are marrying near one, we can help you find nearby private land or a venue where a show is allowed.

Can you fly in New York City?

Drone flights in the five boroughs of New York City require NYPD approval on top of FAA authorization, so they take extra planning. Many hosts choose waterfront, Hamptons, Long Island or Hudson Valley venues nearby instead.

Day-of Questions

This section of the drone light show FAQ covers what actually happens on the night, so you know what to expect.

When does your crew arrive?

Our crew arrives well before dark to set up quietly away from guests, mark the launch zone and safety perimeter, and run pre-flight checks. We coordinate arrival and access with your planner or venue in advance.

What do we need to provide on the day?

A clear launch area, vehicle or walking access for our equipment, and one contact person who can confirm timing. We handle the drones, the safety perimeter and the flight itself.

Do you offer a rehearsal flight?

A rehearsal flight is included with the Spectacle package. It lets us confirm positioning, sightlines and timing on site before the real show, which is especially helpful for large or complex productions.

When is the best time for the show?

After full dark, when the lights look brightest. Many couples and hosts schedule the show after dinner, after a toast or as a finale before the last dance.

Aerial Photo and Video

Is photo and video included?

Yes. Every package includes professional aerial photography and 4K video of your show, and Spectacle adds full-day aerial coverage. Learn more about our aerial wedding photography and videography.

When will we receive our footage?

Edited aerial photos and 4K video are delivered within 4-6 weeks of your event.

Can our own photographer shoot the show?

Of course. We coordinate with your photographer and videographer on angles and timing so they capture the show and your guests’ reactions from the ground.

VIP and Privacy: Drone Light Show FAQ

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. NDAs are standard for our VIP work, and we keep client names out of our marketing. See how we approach VIP event drone shows in Hollywood, Los Angeles, New York and beyond.

Will you post our event online?

Never without your written permission. For sensitive events, we can hand over all footage for your exclusive use.

Do you work with security teams?

Yes. We perform many VIP events and routinely coordinate crew credentials, vehicle access and timing with venue security and executive protection teams.

Destination and Travel: Drone Light Show FAQ

Do you travel outside Colorado?

Yes. We are based in Denver and fly shows in all 50 states. Travel is quoted separately based on your location and crew needs.

Can you do a destination wedding drone show?

Yes. We plan shows for destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe. Visit our destination wedding drone shows page, or start with our wedding drone shows overview.

How much lead time does a destination show need?

More than a local show. Aviation approvals, equipment shipping and local rules vary by country and can take weeks or longer, so reach out as soon as your venue and date are set.
