No state has more freshwater shoreline than Michigan, and the wedding business here is built on it. Receptions face Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Grand Traverse Bay or one of thousands of inland lakes, which means most couples already have the open sightline a fleet needs. Water is also what complicates a Michigan wedding drone show, because wind behaves differently over it.
Heaviest demand sits in Traverse City and the Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas, where wine country and bay frontage overlap. Ford International the Grand Rapids and lakeshore area, and Bishop International, Capital Region International, Pellston Regional and Sawyer International handle the rest. Sites under a Class B or C shelf may need a manual FAA authorization instead.
Lake wind is the operational wrinkle. An onshore breeze can double in strength during the final hour before dark while the inland forecast stays calm. We set the launch point back from the water line and keep a hold window in the schedule so one gust cycle does not end the evening.
Northern Michigan runs late May through early October, and the Upper Peninsula is shorter still. The southern half stretches into late October most years. Peak Traverse City Saturdays are claimed roughly eighteen months out.
Darkness arrives late this far west inside the Eastern time zone. A late June wedding near Traverse City is not dark enough until close to ten, which is a genuine planning problem worth raising before the date is fixed.
