Proposal Drone Show and Gender Reveal Drone Show Planning
A proposal drone show puts the question where no one can miss it: written in light across the night sky, seconds before you drop to one knee. Chromaglow designs custom drone light shows for surprise proposals, engagement parties, gender reveals and baby announcements, flying from our Denver base to all 50 states and destinations abroad. Whether you are asking “Will you marry me?” or revealing pink or blue, every show is built around one moment and one very important reaction.
We have completed more than 900 custom drone shows over 8+ years, with a perfect FAA safety record and $10M in insurance. Small, secret shows are some of the most rewarding work we do, and they demand careful planning. Below you will find how we keep a proposal drone show secret, how a gender reveal drone show works when even the parents do not know the answer, what each package includes and answers to the questions we hear most.
Why Choose a Proposal Drone Show?
Rings hidden in dessert and signs held by friends are sweet, but a sky full of drones spelling out your partner’s name is in a different category. A proposal drone show is personal, quiet enough that you can still talk to each other, and completely designed around your story.
- It is custom from the first frame. Initials, the date you met, the city of your first trip, a favorite song and the question itself.
- It is timed to you. The show starts when you give the signal, not at a fixed minute on a clock.
- It is captured. Every package includes professional aerial photo and 4K video, so the moment is filmed from above as well as the ground.
- It leaves no trace. No smoke, no debris and no noise that gives the surprise away early.
Planning a Surprise Proposal Drone Show
The hardest part of a surprise proposal drone show is not the drones. It is getting your partner to the right place, facing the right direction, at the right time, without them suspecting anything. We have planned enough of these to help with every piece.
Keeping the Secret
Everything stays between you and our team. Design previews go only to the email and phone you choose, and our calls happen on your schedule. If friends or family are helping, we can loop them in on logistics without sending them the designs. On the night, the crew sets up out of sight and keeps lighting to a minimum until showtime.
Choosing the Spot and the Cover Story
Good proposal drone show locations share three things: open space nearby for launch, a clear view of the sky and a reason for your partner to be there. A dinner on a terrace, a lakeside walk, a family gathering in the backyard or a “photo shoot” at sunset all work. We help you pick a spot and plan the timing so the sky is dark enough when you arrive.
The Hidden Photographer
Our aerial team captures the show from above, and we strongly recommend a ground photographer too, tucked out of sight with a clear angle on your partner’s face. We coordinate with them on positioning and timing so they catch the reaction when the first words appear.
“Will You Marry Me?” and Ring Animations
The most requested proposal drone show sequence builds slowly: your initials, a heart, a scene from your story, then “Will you marry me?” in bright letters, followed by a ring that sparkles and spins. Some clients add a second message after the yes, like “She said yes!” or the date. We share previews and refine the proposal drone show until every scene feels right to you.
The Backup Plan
Plans change, even for a carefully planned proposal drone show. Dinner runs long, traffic hits, your partner wants to change first. We build a timing window around your arrival and stay in touch by text so the show launches when you are both in place. We also watch the weather closely. We fly in light rain and winds up to about 20 mph, and if conditions are unsafe we agree on a backup night or time with you in advance.
Engagement Party Drone Shows
Already said yes? An engagement party is the perfect place to share the news with everyone. Hosts use drone shows to replay the proposal story, reveal a wedding date or venue, or simply toast the couple with names and a heart over the party. We can even bring back favorite scenes from your proposal drone show for friends and family who missed the original. When the wedding comes around, our wedding drone shows page covers how we design for the big day.
Gender Reveal Drone Show: A Fire-Safe Alternative
A gender reveal drone show gives you the big moment without the risks that come with smoke cannons and pyrotechnics. Pyrotechnic reveal products carry real fire risk, and many areas restrict them during dry seasons. Drones produce no flame, no sparks and no smoke, and the colors are brighter and more precise than anything that comes out of a canister.
- Fire-safe: no flame or hot debris, which matters on dry lawns, farms and anywhere with fire restrictions.
- Clearer colors: pink or blue fills the sky in a way everyone can see, including guests at the back.
- More story: build suspense with a countdown, questions and teasing scenes before the reveal.
- Better footage: every package includes aerial photo and 4K video of the moment and the crowd’s reaction.
How the Sealed-Envelope Workflow Keeps the Secret
For a gender reveal drone show, the parents usually want to be surprised too. We use a simple workflow so that only our show designer knows the answer.
- You design everything else. We build and share the full storyboard with you, including the countdown and suspense scenes, using a neutral placeholder color for the reveal.
- The envelope goes to the designer. Your doctor’s office, a trusted friend or you send the sealed result directly to our designer. No one else on our team opens it.
- The designer finalizes the reveal. Pink, blue or a twins combination is set in the final show file, which is labeled neutrally so no one on the crew sees the answer.
- Show night. The pilots fly the file as approved, and the answer appears in the sky for the first time for everyone, including you.
Gender Reveal Drone Show Ideas
Countdown Ideas
Every gender reveal drone show needs a little suspense. A few favorites:
- A 10-to-1 countdown with guests chanting along
- A question mark that slowly fills with color
- A stork flying across the sky, dropping a bundle that bursts into pink or blue
- A baby bottle, rattle or footprints that change color at the peak of the song
- “Boy or girl?” teased back and forth before the final answer
Twins and Multiples
Expecting twins? A gender reveal drone show can reveal each baby separately, with two figures, two hearts or two balloons that change color one at a time. It works for two girls, two boys or one of each, and the designer handles every combination through the same sealed-envelope workflow.
Baby Announcements
Not doing a reveal? Drones make a beautiful pregnancy or baby announcement for family gatherings, holiday parties or a second- or third-child surprise. A due date, “Baby on board,” a growing family of stick figures or a name reveal after the birth all work well.
Proposal Drone Show and Gender Reveal Packages
Most proposals and gender reveals are intimate, so the Capture package is usually the right fit. Every package includes professional aerial photography and 4K video, delivered in 4-6 weeks.
- Capture, from $6,500: 70 drones, a 3-5 minute show and 2 custom animations, ideal for 50-150 guests. Enough for a proposal drone show with the question and a ring, or a countdown and reveal.
- Illuminate, from $10,000: 150 drones, a 5-8 minute show, 4 custom animations and a dedicated show producer for 150-400 guests. Popular for engagement parties and bigger reveal celebrations.
- Spectacle, from $18,000: 200-300+ drones, an 8-12 minute show, unlimited animations, multi-song sync, a rehearsal flight and full-day aerial coverage for 400+ guests.
Travel and complex airspace are quoted separately. See everything side by side on our packages page, and learn what happens from first call to show night on our how it works page.
Safety, Permits and Airspace
Every proposal drone show and gender reveal drone show is flown by FAA Part 107 certified pilots with a trained safety team. Many locations need FAA waivers or authorizations for night flights, multi-drone operations or controlled airspace near airports, and those approvals can take weeks. We handle the FAA paperwork, check venue and property rules, and let you know early if your location needs more lead time or a nearby launch site. Proposal Drone Show and Gender Reveal FAQ
How far ahead should I book a proposal drone show?
Aim for at least a few weeks, and more if your location is near an airport, where FAA authorizations can take weeks. Popular dates like Valentine’s Day, Christmas and New Year’s Eve book early. If your timeline is short, call us and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Will my partner hear or see the setup?
We plan for that. The crew sets up out of sight with minimal lighting, and the drones stay on the ground until your signal. A soft hum near the launch area is all anyone hears.
What if my partner is late or the plan changes?
We build a timing window and stay in touch by text on the night. The show launches when you are both in place, within the limits of the approved flight window.
Who knows the result for a gender reveal?
Only our show designer. You approve the storyboard with a neutral placeholder color, and the designer sets the final reveal from your sealed envelope in a neutrally labeled file.
Can we do a gender reveal drone show in our backyard?
Often, yes. A small show needs a clear launch area roughly the size of a tennis court or larger, plus a safety buffer and a clear view of the sky. We confirm the details on a site survey.
What happens if it rains?
We fly in light rain and winds up to about 20 mph. If conditions are unsafe, we agree on a backup time or night with you in advance. More answers are on our FAQ page.
