How It Works: From Vision to Reality
Creating a custom drone light show is a collaborative process that spans months of planning, design, and coordination. From your initial vision to the moment hundreds of drones light up the sky above your wedding, every step is carefully orchestrated to ensure a flawless execution.
Here’s exactly how the Chromaglow process works, step by step.
Step 1: Initial Consultation & Vision Discussion
Timeline: 0-2 weeks after contact
Everything starts with a conversation. When you reach out to Chromaglow, you’ll speak with our team about your wedding vision, your preferences, and your expectations.
During your initial consultation, we discuss:
- Your wedding date and location – When and where are you getting married?
- Your guest count – How many people will be attending?
- Your vision for the show – What do you want your drone show to include? What animations matter most?
- Music selection – What song(s) should the show be synchronized to?
- Budget and package options – Which package (Capture, Illuminate, or Spectacle) fits your needs?
- Venue details – Is your venue drone-show friendly? Are there any restrictions or logistics to discuss?
- Your story – We learn about you as a couple and what makes your celebration unique
This consultation is free, friendly, and no-pressure. We’re here to answer questions and help you determine if a drone show is right for your wedding.
At the end of the consultation, if you decide to move forward, we’ll send you a detailed proposal with pricing and timeline.
Step 2: Custom Show Design & Animation Creation
Timeline: 2-6 weeks before wedding
Once you’ve booked, our creative team gets to work designing your unique show.
Here’s what happens:
- Animation design: We create the custom animations you requested—your initials, your wedding date, hearts, logos, or any design you want. We send you sketches or previews so you can approve and provide feedback.
- Show choreography: Our team choreographs how the show will flow. What animation comes first? How do they transition? What’s the finale? The music guides everything.
- Timing and pacing: We synchronize every drone movement to the beat and emotional arc of your music. Slow sections flow gently; crescendos build dramatically.
- Technical specifications: We load all animations into our flight planning software, configure drone formation parameters, and test sequences.
- Revisions: You’ll have the opportunity to request revisions. Want a different style for your initials? Need to adjust the timing? We refine until you love it.
By the time this step is complete, your show is designed, tested, and ready to fly. You have detailed documentation of what to expect.
Step 3: FAA Coordination & Permits
Timeline: 4-8 weeks before wedding
Operating a fleet of 70-300+ drones isn’t something you just do—it requires proper regulatory approval and coordination with the FAA and local authorities.
Chromaglow handles all of this. We coordinate:
- FAA waivers and approvals – We have the necessary waivers to operate beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) with large fleets
- NOTAM filing – We file Notices to Airmen so other aircraft know what’s happening in your airspace
- Local coordination – We work with local airports, if relevant, and ensure all local requirements are met
- Weather protocols – We establish contingency plans for weather and alternative dates/times
- Insurance documentation – We provide proof of our $10M insurance to your venue and event coordinator
You don’t need to worry about this—we manage all regulatory requirements. This is why hiring an experienced, FAA-compliant operator like Chromaglow matters.
Step 4: Rehearsal & Technical Setup
Timeline: 24-48 hours before wedding (varies by package)
For our Spectacle package, we include a rehearsal flight the day before your wedding. For other packages, we conduct a technical setup at your venue.
This step ensures everything is perfect:
- Rehearsal flight: All drones launch, execute the show sequence, and land safely. We verify animations look perfect, timing is correct, and everything synchronizes with your music.
- Venue assessment: We scout the exact launch location, confirm clear airspace, and identify the best viewpoint for your guests.
- Equipment testing: Every drone is tested, every battery is checked, backup systems are verified.
- Team coordination: We brief the entire show team on their roles, timing, contingencies, and communication protocols.
- Your approval: You get to see (or approve) exactly what’s happening. If anything needs adjustment, we make final tweaks.
By the time your wedding day arrives, everything has been tested and verified. There are no surprises.
Step 5: Show Night Execution
Timeline: Wedding day
This is the moment that matters.
Here’s how show night unfolds:
- Early arrival: Our team arrives 3-4 hours before show time to set up all equipment, conduct final checks, and prepare launch sites.
- Weather monitoring: We monitor conditions continuously and confirm the show will proceed (or communicate any weather-related adjustments).
- Team positioning: Multiple pilots position themselves strategically. Safety spotters are in place. Communication systems are active.
- Final countdown: As your show time approaches, we confirm with your event coordinator. Music is cued. Guests are gathered.
- Liftoff: At the perfect moment, all drones launch simultaneously in a coordinated formation. The show begins.
- Live execution: For the duration of your show, our pilots execute every animation perfectly, monitoring each drone and responding to any system alerts in real-time.
- Safe landing: As the final animation concludes and your show ends, all drones descend smoothly and land safely.
- Guest celebration: Your guests are amazed. Phones are out. Cheers and celebration fill the air. This is the moment they’ll remember forever.
And we’ve captured every second from multiple aerial angles, with professional 4K cameras recording the entire show.
Step 6: Delivery of Aerial Footage
Timeline: 4-6 weeks after wedding
After the excitement of your wedding day settles, we get to work creating a beautiful aerial video for you.
Here’s what happens:
- Footage organization: All aerial video and photos from the show are organized, backed up, and imported into editing software.
- Selection and review: We review all footage and select the best angles and moments.
- Color grading: Every shot is professionally color-graded in DaVinci Resolve for beautiful, consistent tones.
- Editing to music: Footage is edited and synchronized to your selected song(s), creating a narrative flow.
- Effects and transitions: Professional transitions, slow-motion moments, and subtle effects enhance the emotional impact.
- Sound mixing: Audio is balanced and mixed for professional quality.
- Final delivery: You receive your aerial video in multiple formats (4K MP4, Full HD, social media clips) plus high-resolution photos.
The result is a treasured video you’ll watch and share for years.
